and Parental Rights

I'm Jared Geist and I'm running for Ramapo Indian Hills Board of Education

It’s time to redirect the focus of the RIH Board of Education to serving the needs of all students first and foremost. No personal agendas or politics. Students should have an educational environment and curriculum that promotes freedom of thought and speech. One designed to inspire and develop critical thinking skills with diverse points of view without ideology. It’s important to teach students “how” to think independently and not “what” to think. This allows them to develop the ability and skills they will need to realize and achieve their personal goals.

The board does not create curriculum nor does it run the schools. It works with school administration to ensure that all students receive the best quality education in the most supportive, engaging and safe environment possible.

Jared's Goals

  • Preserving academic excellence and supporting a fair and balanced traditional curriculum without woke ideology.
  • Raising educational standards instead of lowering them to improve declining test scores.
  • Prioritize and defend Parental Rights - parents should be the foremost authority on the care and well-being of their children and their education.
  • Ensure fiscal responsibility and accountability.
  • Provide real transparency to parents and the public.
  • Supporting the overall health and well-being of all students including the most robust safety measures and armed security.
  • Work diligently to bridge the growing disparity between the two high schools in collaboration with school administration, teachers, and any support services required.

THE RIGHT VALUES AND FOCUS WILL MAKE A POSITIVE IMPACT TO OUR STUDENTS & SCHOOL DISTRICT.

About

Jared Geist has lived in Wyckoff since 2017 with his wife, Ashley McGinnis Geist, a lifelong Wyckoff resident, and their three children. Jared and his wife moved back to her hometown to raise their children in the same family-friendly community she grew up in. Jared said “it’s one of best decisions we've ever made”.

Jared is very active in the Wyckoff community:

  • He volunteers as a soccer coach for the Wyckoff Recreation Department
  • Supports Wyckoff Pack 110 Cub Scouts as its den leader
  • Is a member of the Wyckoff Cornerstone Christian Church

Professionally

Jared graduated with a Bachelor of Science with double major in Journalism and Political Science from Central Michigan University and Juris Doctor Michigan State University College of Law.

Jared has been an attorney for 15 years with admission to the bar in New Jersey, Michigan, the Federal District Court for the District of New Jersey, the United States Court of Appeals for the 3rd Circuit, and the Bar of the Supreme Court of the United States of America.

Jared has been following the happenings at our local school board meetings and regularly speaks with friends and neighbors who share their concerns about the board's severe lack of decorum and civility. Declining test scores and poor math proficiency numbers are also very concerning. Our district has been known for its high academic performance, however, at Indian Hills, 25% of the Class of 2024 and 21.6% of students at Ramapo did not pass the NJ Graduation Proficiency Exam in mathematics. The year before, 37% at Indian Hills and 36.7% at Ramapo did not pass this exam. This decline is extremely troublesome.

Our district is in dire need of change. Now is the time to redirect the focus and energy of the BOE back to our students and their needs, including the tools and resources that will allow them to thrive. As an attorney and former judge, Jared will bring the analytical, attention to detail, interpersonal skills and persuasive communication strategies of his profession to support the important work of the board.

Students and Parents First

Our students deserve an educational environment designed to inspire and develop critical thinking skills, resilience, kindness and one that helps them realize and achieve their personal goals.

Jared is running for the RIH BOE on the platform of integrity and honesty based on his core family and civic values. As a BOE member, Jared will promote transparency and advocate that every child and parent is treated with respect and compassion. He will also be a strong voice for our community.

Stronger Together

Together, as a team, we will bring back the tradition of excellence of Ramapo Indian Hills School District by prioritizing our students' education through high quality traditional academics and protecting the fundamental rights of parents.
