Jared Geist has lived in Wyckoff since 2017 with his wife, Ashley McGinnis Geist, a lifelong Wyckoff resident, and their three children. Jared and his wife moved back to her hometown to raise their children in the same family-friendly community she grew up in. Jared said “it’s one of best decisions we've ever made”.
Jared is very active in the Wyckoff community:
- He volunteers as a soccer coach for the Wyckoff Recreation Department
- Supports Wyckoff Pack 110 Cub Scouts as its den leader
- Is a member of the Wyckoff Cornerstone Christian Church
Professionally
Jared graduated with a Bachelor of Science with double major in Journalism and Political Science from Central Michigan University and Juris Doctor Michigan State University College of Law.
Jared has been an attorney for 15 years with admission to the bar in New Jersey, Michigan, the Federal District Court for the District of New Jersey, the United States Court of Appeals for the 3rd Circuit, and the Bar of the Supreme Court of the United States of America.
Jared has been following the happenings at our local school board meetings and regularly speaks with friends and neighbors who share their concerns about the board's severe lack of decorum and civility. Declining test scores and poor math proficiency numbers are also very concerning. Our district has been known for its high academic performance, however, at Indian Hills, 25% of the Class of 2024 and 21.6% of students at Ramapo did not pass the NJ Graduation Proficiency Exam in mathematics. The year before, 37% at Indian Hills and 36.7% at Ramapo did not pass this exam. This decline is extremely troublesome.
Our district is in dire need of change. Now is the time to redirect the focus and energy of the BOE back to our students and their needs, including the tools and resources that will allow them to thrive. As an attorney and former judge, Jared will bring the analytical, attention to detail, interpersonal skills and persuasive communication strategies of his profession to support the important work of the board.
Students and Parents First
Our students deserve an educational environment designed to inspire and develop critical thinking skills, resilience, kindness and one that helps them realize and achieve their personal goals.
Jared is running for the RIH BOE on the platform of integrity and honesty based on his core family and civic values. As a BOE member, Jared will promote transparency and advocate that every child and parent is treated with respect and compassion. He will also be a strong voice for our community.
Stronger Together
Together, as a team, we will bring back the tradition of excellence of Ramapo Indian Hills School District by prioritizing our students' education through high quality traditional academics and protecting the fundamental rights of parents.
